
Not every recipe needs a grand occasion, but Fried Black Cod (Sable Fish) with Garlic Aioli has a way of making the meal feel like one. This is a satisfying dish to keep in mind whenever dinner deserves a little more attention. Give it the time it needs, then enjoy the pleasure of sharing it with someone you love.
Ingredients
- 2 lb. Black cod fillets portioned into 8 pieces
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1 tbs. Paprika
- 1 tbs. Chili powder
- 1/4 tsp. Turmeric
- 1 tbs. Salt
- 1/2 tbs. Onion powder
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup milk from the fish soak
- Salt and black pepper
- 1 gallon oil for frying
- Garlic aioli
- 5 cloves garlic minced
- 1-2 tbs. Lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp. Dijon mustard
- 3/4 mayonnaise
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Soak black cod fish fillets in the milk for one hour.
- In the meantime make the aioli by whisking the ingredients and save in the fridge.
- In a plate mix the flour, 1 cup of cornstarch and spices.
- In a separate plate whisk 2 eggs with 1/3 cup of the milk and salt and pepper.
- Start by taking the fish fillets one at a time coat completely in the flour mixture, shake off any extra flour dip in the egg wash coating from all sides then dip again in the flour mixture set on a tray until you finish all the fillets.
- Heat the oil to 350 F.
- Fry the fish until golden serve with the aioli and 1-2 tablespoons of lemon juice.
Notes
- Always be careful when frying in hot oil as it splatters!!
