Aysh Al Saraya ~ عيش السرايا literally translates to palace bread, and it’s one of the best and easiest desserts you’ll enjoy this Ramadan. It’s especially lovely after Iftar, light, sweet, and comforting, and in my opinion that checks all the boxes. Next to a cup of tea, it will make you feel like royalty 👑.
Ingredients
- 👑 4 cups milk
- 👑 1 cup heavy cream
- 👑 1/2 cup sugar
- 👑 5 heaping tbs cornstarch
- 👑 2 caps full orange blossom water
- 👑 2 cups sugar
- 👑 1 1/2 cup hot water
Instructions
- 👑 white slice bread.
- 👑 ground pistachio.
- 1- start by making the caramel simple syrup. Heat the sugar in the pan until it reaches a light caramel color, stirring occasionally. In the meantime have your water hot and ready.
- 2- once the sugar reaches the light caramel color, add 1 1/2 cups of hot water gradually while stirring and keep stirring until there’s no lumps. Add a squirt of lemon to prevent crystallization and keep cooking. You will know it’s done once the sugar is sticky to the touch on the back of a spoon. Be careful since this is hot sugar.
- 3- cut the crusts off the bread slices and place on a baking sheet to toast in the oven under the broiler. I used 9 slices.
- 4- add 4 cups of milk, 1 cup of heavy cream, sugar and cornstarch to a saucepan and stir off heat while cold making sure there’s no lumps. Bring to the stove over medium heat and continue stirring until thickened. Then add the orange blossom water, stir to incorporate, and turn off the heat.
- 5- now start arranging the slice bread in a 9×13 inch dish, cutting the bread slices in order to make it fit in an even layer. Add enough of the warm caramel simple syrup to cover the toast making sure it absorbs it up.
- 6- add the thickened cream on top of it, spreading it evenly with a spoon. Place it in the fridge to set for at least 2 hours.
- 7- once cooled, add ground pistachio to the top covering it completely. Cut a slice and enjoy! 🌻.
