Croissant Om Ali ~ أم علي بالكرواسون

Hey everyone, Croissant Om Ali ~ أم علي بالكرواسون has arrived, and she’s here to stay. This delicious, moist, velvety dessert is out of this world. Om Ali originated in Egypt and is traditionally made with puff pastry, but today I’m making it with two day old croissants. I hope you get to try it!

Ingredients

  • 🥐 5 croissants ( day old )
  • 🥐 4 cups milk full fat
  • 🥐 1/2 cup sugar
  • 🥐 splash of vanilla + vanilla bean
  • 🥐 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 🥐 1 can 6 ounce kashta
  • 🥐1/4 cup golden raisins, 1/3 cup pistachio, 1/3 cup sliced almond, 1/4 cup shredded coconut ( optional )
  • 🥐 sugar in the raw for topping ( optional )

Instructions

  1. Heat your oven to 450 F bake.
  2. Grab a deep baking dish. I used a 9 inch round, you can use 8×8 square. Rip 3 of the croissants into big chunks and place at the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle the nuts +r raisins evenly, it’s a forgiving dessert so no worries on how much you use. Rip the rest of the croissants and place on top.
  3. Heat the milk with the sugar and vanilla and stir until the sugar dissolves do not let boil !
  4. Add the heated milk to the croissants. The milk will look like it’s a lot. Don’t worry! As the croissants will absorb it while it’s cooking.
  5. Add 1/4 cup of heavy cream on top evenly, then drop the ashta on top with a spoon don’t smooth out. I like to sprinkle sugar in the raw to the top ( optional ) it will give a beautiful color when baking.
  6. Place the dish on a baking sheet and place in the oven. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden and enjoy!
