Part 2, falafel salad bowl. I literally woke up dreaming about this, all the components of a falafel sandwich in a bowl. It’s a healthier approach that’s so satisfying and super delicious. The only thing is you still have to fry the falafel 😇, don’t ever try baking it. It just doesn’t work.
Ingredients
Falafel mix
- 2 cups chickpea/garbanzo soaked over night
- 1/2 medium onion quartered
- 1 bunch parsley washed, stems removed
- 2 garlic cloves
- 2 tsp cumin ground, 1 tsp anise ground, 2 tsp coriander ground, 1 tsp Aleppo pepper ground, 1 tbs salt, 1/2 tsp baking soda
Green goddess sauce
- Equal parts parsley, cilantro, mint, 2 cloves garlic, 1 jalapeños, 1 tbs olive oil and lemon juice
Instructions
- Strain the chickpeas from the soaking water and give it a good rinse, strain again and add 1/4 tsp baking soda stir well and set aside. In a food processor add the vegetables and process until medium chop, add the chickpeas and process add the spices and B. Soda and process until combined (rough not fine) secret to the crunch. I like to prepare the falafel mix a night before to let the flavors develop.
- To fry heat the oil on high and then turn to medium, form into balls using a falafel press and lower carefully into the hot oil. Fry until golden on all sides and cooked all the way through, the key is to keep watching that the oil doesn’t get too hot or too cold. My advice is to fry a couple and test it out that should give you an idea!! Also when you fry 4-5 at a time the oil won’t be as hot.
- Process everything together until you get a smooth sauce.
