Fresh Za’atar and Cheese Bread

Fresh Za’atar and Cheese Bread

I have learned to trust recipes that feel at home on both a weekday table and a table full of guests; Fresh Za’atar and Cheese Bread has that ease. There is a particular satisfaction in baking something you can tear, slice, and pass around while it is fresh. There is something comforting about letting the oven take over while the table comes together.

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup yogurt (middle eastern)
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tbs white vinegar
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tbs baking powder
  • 1 cup packed oregano triple washed (substitute with rosemary)
  • 1 cup nabulsi cheese or halloumi crumbled

Instructions

  1. My mom is a great cook 👩🏻‍🍳 that’s why I’m an awesome cook 💁🏻‍♀️ and this recipe comes from my mom’s kitchen it’s a healthy start for your day and so delicious in the morning and with your afternoon tea.
  2. 1 cup of triple wash the oregano and towel dry.
  3. Soak nabulsi for an hour because it’s super salty, if using halloumi cheese no need and you might want to add 1/4 tsp salt to the batter.
  4. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  5. Beat the wet ingredients (3 eggs, 1/2 cup of yogurt, oil and vinegar) you will use the water later on.
  6. Add the flour/1 tablespoon of baking powder to the wet ingredients alternating with water (it will be a thick batter).
  7. Stir in the fresh za’atar and crumbled cheese and stir well.
  8. Brush a 9×13 baking dish with olive oil and flour, add the batter and smooth the top while spreading.
  9. Bake on bottom shelf for 35-40 minutes or until the edges are golden then pop under the broiler to get that beautiful golden color. Enjoy.
