
A Middle Eastern delicacy, especially in the Levant region. Don’t be intimidated by the ingredients or the steps, it couldn’t be easier if you follow along carefully. So delicious and worth a try, a crowd pleaser for sure. We make this dish for family or friend gatherings, part of a table spread next to tabouleh, baba ganoush, kebeh bulgur, and fatayer.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb coarse ground meat (mix lamb and beef )
- 1 1/2 lb. small Italian aubergine 12- 15 depending on size
- 1 medium onion finely chopped
- 1 tbs vegetable oil
- 1 tsp 7 spice
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon ground
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbs pomegranate molasses
- 1/2 cup fried slivered almonds
- 1 can whole tomatoes 28 ounce
- 3 pita bread cubed
- Vegetable oil for frying
Yogurt sauce
- 1 tbs tahini sauce
- 4 tbs Greek yogurt
- 1-2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 1/2 tbs lemon juice
- 1/4 cup water
