Possibly the best tuna salad sandwich you will ever have. The tartness of the green apple adds a lot to the salad, and I also like a bit of crunch, that’s where the walnuts come in. Typically I don’t like cheese or tomato on tuna salad, but if that’s what you fancy, go for it ☺️. You can also turn this recipe into canapés for the holidays.
Ingredients
- 12 ounce wild caught albacore tuna in water
- 6 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tsp dill mustard or regular
- 1 tbs dill relish drained
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 cup chopped green apple
- Marble rye bread
- Red onion, avocado and mixed greens
Instructions
- Drain tuna from water making sure to squeeze out any excess, with a fork smash the tuna add the salt and pepper, 6 tablespoons of mayonnaise, mustard, relish and mix well then add the green apples and 1/3 cup of walnuts and give it a final stir. Af this point adjust the seasoning.
- Now it’s time to assemble I like to use marble rye for tuna salad but you can use any bread you like. Toast on both sides ( refer to reel on how to build your sandwich ).
Notes
- 1- when measuring mayonnaise I use the table spoon as a guide in the bowl, so I measure in it the first and then I eyeball the rest. 2- it’s very important to discard all the liquid from the tuna so you don’t end up with a soggy tuna salad. 3- Cast iron is the best for toasting bread.
