
There is something especially satisfying about making Cheese and Hawaiian Rolls and bringing it to the table. This is the kind of centerpiece that makes dinner feel complete without needing a crowded menu. Make it your own where the recipe allows, then pass the plate around generously.
Ingredients
- 1 pack Hawaiian rolls
- 2 lb. Flank steak thinly sliced
- 1 medium red onion, sliced
- 1 green pepper, sliced
- 1 red pepper, sliced
- 1 1/2 tbs. Beef tallow (substitute with neutral oil)
- 1 tbs. Chili powder
- 1 tsp. Onion powder
- 1/2 tsp. Black pepper
- 1 tsp. Heaping dried Mexican oregano
- 1/2 tsp. Salt
- Havarti sliced cheese (or your favorite)
Butter sauce
- 6 ounce salted butter
- 8-10 cloves garlic minced
- Parsley, chopped
Instructions
- In a hot large skillet melt the tallow add the beef and cook on high while stirring for 1 minute. Add the spices listed except for the salt. Cover and let cook on low until the beef is tender.
- In the meantime prepare the butter sauce, melt the butter until almost melted add the garlic and cook on low. Skim any white discard once the garlic is fragrant add parsley cook for 30 seconds. Set aside.
- Uncover the beef add salt and stir, let the juices evaporate and push to the side add the peppers and 1 onion and cook until almost soft. Stir everything together.
- Split the rolls in half down the middle, spread half of the butter sauce top with the beef mixture then slices of cheese. Top with the other half of the bread then top with the rest of the sauce and cover.
- Bake in a 350 F. oven for 10 minutes uncover and let cook for 30 seconds more.
