I have learned to trust recipes that feel at home on both a weekday table and a table full of guests; Croissant Om Ali has that ease. I have always believed the dessert table should feel joyful, and this one understands the assignment. Once it is in the oven, the kitchen begins to do that wonderful work of building anticipation.
Ingredients
- 🥐 5 croissants ( day old )
- 🥐 4 cups milk
- 🥐 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 🥐 1 can 14 oz condensed milk
- 🥐 1 vanilla bean split in half
- 🥐 1 can 6 ounce Ashta
- 🥐 for toppings: slivered almonds, golden raisins, pistachio, desiccated coconut flakes
- 🥐 sugar in the raw for topping ( optional )
Instructions
- Heat your oven to 450 F bake.
- Grab a deep baking dish. I used a 2 liter oval dish, you can use 8×8 square.
- Cut the croissants into big chunks and place enough at the bottom to cover the dish. Sprinkle with almonds, raisins and coconut to your liking, it’s a forgiving dessert so no worries on how much you use, top with the rest of the croissants.
- Heat the milk, cream, condensed milk and vanilla and stir to come to heat without boiling.
- Add the heated milk to the croissants. The milk will look like it’s a lot. Don’t worry! As the croissants will absorb it while it’s cooking.
- Spread the can of Ashta on top evenly, then top with extra coconut and pistachio.
- Place the dish on a baking sheet and place in the oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden, enjoy!
